Double Agents

Exhibited in 2004 in Lisbon and the Azores, these gouache-on-paper works (ranging from 105×107 to 140×183 cm) draw on fragments from black-and-white picture books about secret agents, spies, police, and bandits—ephemeral, quick-read publications whose stark, graphic quality persists (as described in Mission at the Border by João Queiroz), set against the backdrop of the global tensions of the period.
